2018-1 | March - July 2018
I was lucky to be born into an artistic family. My parents Ellen Powell Tiberino and Joe Tiberino, both had distinguished visual art careers. As a child, I was surrounded by art, and creating was an everyday occurrence. From an early age, I participated in informal opportunities to draw and paint with my parents and their wider circle of friends. I also enjoyed formal classes at the Fleisher Art Memorial. Although my exposure to the arts was all encompassing, I did not pursue art as a career choice. It has only been within the past fifteen years I have been inspired and developed as an artist. The inspiration for my desire to create was in finding my creative medium, stained glass. I truly enjoy working with glass and find the entire process to be a very soothing, almost religious experience. Choosing the different rich colors of glass panes, cutting and moving the glass pieces around until they work just right, and finally seeing the finished product emerge after grouting is a fascinating process. I work with the stained glass in a mosaic method that I equate to painting with glass. The colors of the stained glass flow to express nature, one of my biggest inspirations.I am constantly amazed and astounded by the natural world around me, and I seek to glorify it in my artwork. As a concerned environmentalist, I am deeply affected and traumatized by the massive destruction of our natural world by man. I hope my work will convey some of the earth’s precious natural beauty. As an Artist, I like to take my pain and inner turmoil and turn it into something beautiful for the world to see.
